O Moooi!: Going Dutch in Style

Moooi.

How awesome is that word? Translated from Dutch, mooi means beautiful – here, with an added o for extra beauty. It is always satisfying when a company can deliver a complete and thorough package: great advertising and marketing, strong branding, cutting edge photography (Catalogue photos by Erwin Olaf!) and graphic design- everything down to the last chosen font style. Of course all of those fun details would not make any sense if it wasn’t also for great product and Moooi specializes in high end home furnishings. The company is composed of today’s premier designers, a truly international collaboration, all designing under one roof.

Design crush: Brit wunderkind John Reeves

One of my favorite recent discoveries is John Reeves, a young British furniture designer. The pieces in his collections are eye-catching at first (to say the least) and exhilarating when you take a closer look. Like the Louis Ghost Chair by Philippe Starck, Reeves’ collections are based on classical pieces of furniture which he updates using modern production methods and new materials, creating something contemporary and very of today. His work is quite versatile, lending itself to traditional, modern or eclectic furniture arrangements.
